aquaponics diy

With hydroponics, one of the expenses is adding the chemical fertilizer. With aquaculture, one of the big expenses is cleaning the fish wastes out of the water. Each of these things just happens to be what the other system needs. So when you combine the two, you get a system that for the most part takes care of itself.

It is very important that you provide plenty of oxygenation for the water. Oxygen is just as important to your fish as it is to you. Without oxygen your fish will die and if levels are too low they will not thrive an can become sick. The healthier the fish are, the better the whole system will work. You can not oxygenate the water too much. It is far better to give the fish more oxygen than they need than not enough.

Now it's time to discuss the plants. The nitrates that have now become a threat will be dealt with. Plants will destroy the nitrates because plants require them to sustain their life.

Why is this "new" system so great? It works because the combination of both systems actually balances each other and makes a perfect eco system. With hydroponics, you can grow a multitude of fruits and vegetables like lettuce, potatoes, carrots or tomato's. With aquaculture, you can raise, Koi, White Bass, Catfish Bass, escargot, or crappies.

In regular agriculture as we know it, you till the soil, sow the seed and then maintain it by watering, fertilizing and weeding your garden or field. Eventually you harvest the hard earned produce.

You can't fully understand the answer to "What is aquaponics how to?" without knowing about hydroponics. Hydroponics using water that has fertilizer added to it and in turn the plants absorb the water and hence the nutrients too. The benefit to this process other than the plants are being fed, is that the plants are cleaning the water. They are removing toxins from the water.

Any container can be used for the fish. Some people start with very small buckets to move on to full sized tanks. The stock density of the fish is the factor that will determine the number of grow beds.

Brief descriptionNo need to rent an industrial space to get started. Catfish, carp and trout are much what tilapia is. This means no more bending over and doing the putting surface. There have already been new adaptations of hydroponics.
